Memorial Day 2010

I didn't break out the camera until after nightfall when my niece and nephew decided it was time to put on the glow sticks and jump on the trampoline under the choreographic direction of Keith, their Grandfather.

Looking up trees

Trees.  We drive by them, walk around them, sit under them, climb up them and birds crap from them.  Generally we ignore them except for those moments during the Spring or Fall when they sprout vivid new life or wow us with their pyrotechnic displays as they prepare for hibernation.

The other week Doreen and I took some time to walk amongst the trees of Five Rivers, camera in hand.  I wasn't planning these photographs, in fact I wasn't planning on shooting anything in particular, this just came together after my first chance encounter.  The path was muddy and I had to inch around a difficult puddle which brought me into close contact with the first tree (below).  It was a blustery day and at the precise moment I inched past the puddle, stomach to tree, the wind blew, the tree swayed and an incredible creaking sound vibrated down the tree.  I paused and looked up to see the branches swaying in the sky and to hear the beautiful groaning as the bare tree swung to and fro in the blustery spring air.

Of Passing Interest

Rainy days, snowy days, I'm drawn to the sight of the boots and sneakers splashing through the slush, soaking up the mess and trying to get along.

The Brooklyn Hot Rods

A couple of friends were in from Texas last summer...

Here's Will...

...and John...

Will, John and Christina.  This was before we tried the Watermelon Flavored Beer (seriously terrible)...

Will again...

This was all shot on my Canon 5D in available light, ISO varied between 1600 and 3200.
